SIL Greek Font System (version 1.3) 12 March 1998
Release Notes v1.3
_____________________________________________________________________________

Version 1.3 is the first public release of the SIL Greek Font System. Earlier
versions of the fonts (without utilities) have been released as part of
LinguaLinks and Translators Workplace.

NOTES ON THIS RELEASE

SIL Ulysses vs. SIL Galatia - SIL Ulysses is the name of the Greek fonts as
released with LinguaLinks and Translators Workplace. To enable the fonts to
be more easily used on Web pages, etc., an important encoding change was made
for version 1.3. To avoid any incompatibilities with earlier releases, the
font name was changed to SIL Galatia. Both fonts can be used at the same
time, but SIL Galatia is much more fine tuned and contains numerous
improvements from SIL Ulysses.

SIL Greek Trans changes - This version of the SIL Greek Trans fonts contains
one important encoding change from earlier versions: the apostrophe was moved
to the "@" position, and an ampersand was added in the usual ASCII location.
The font name, however, has not changed. So viewing text created for earlier
font versions with the new fonts will cause an ampersand to show up where an
apostrophe was intended.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Accents not centering - if accents are not being correctly positioned, be
sure you have the keyboards installed and activated.

Smart Quotes - If this feature is turned on in Microsoft Word or other
programs you will get incorrect results when using the keyboards. Turn this
feature off when using the keyboards.

KNOWN PROBLEMS

Acrobat - Samples of the SIL Greek Trans Italic and Bold Italic fonts
contained in the documentation will not view or print correctly. They
will be "overskewed" and look too slanted.

Word 97 - Due to the way Word 97 handles encodings and symbol fonts, you
will probably have some difficulties when using the Greek fonts. Automatic
line breaking will not occur correctly and saving documents as ASCII text
may not give the desired results.

Word (in general) - Installed bitmaps are not used.

Windows NT - The 15 point bitmaps do not install correctly.
