| Q9 : Teaching New Believers I am working on finding some outlines or articles on Learning God's truth and why we believe. Is the bible really God's word and how to apply it to our lives. I work with our youth at Grace church in Racine Wisconsin. I have never done any reserch and have not been involved long with our youth. I feel God is taking me to a newer level and maturity in Him. Do you have any suggestions that would be helpful to my search...Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. . . . May He bless you richly. |
| A9 : by Tony Garland To get started with, I can recommend some excellent summaries on the
inspiration and authority of God's Word which are found in popular study
bibles:
On the application of Biblical truths to life, I can recommend
Designed to be Like Himd by J. Dwight Pentecost. This is
suitable for older youth and adults, but could be useful as a source for an
outline and material for your own teaching to the students.
There is also a course on our website titled Doctrines Believers
Should Know which provides an overview of some of the areas you mention
(Inspiration of the Bible, etc.). Unfortunately, it was one of our first
courses so does not have associated audio recordings. But the notes could
provide a starting place for a teacher to pull together material from the
Scriptures to present to students:
The notes on The Inspiration Of the Bible are
here:
We also have a short evangelistic pamphlet which presents reasons to
believe, titled Why I Believe:
Another book I can recommend which is a tremendous
source for bible teaching in general is Major Bible Themese by
Lewis Sperry Chafer, edited by John Walvoord. All of the books I've
mentioned should be available through www.ChristianBooks.com or even www.amazon.com.
Two other excellent
introductory books which can be purchased from Tyndale Theological Seminaryf bookstore (800 886-1415).
The two books are called Equipping the Saints: Discipleship
Manual. The first book is "Division 1, The Basics" and the second
book is "Division 2, Basic Bible Knowledge."
The first volume deals with the following topics:
Salvation; Assurance; Daily Time with God; Prayer Life; Personal Bible Study;
Scripture Memorization; Confession of Sin; Dealing with Temptation; The
Spirit-filled Life; Obedience; God's Discipline; Developing Godly Habits of
Living; Knowing God's Will; Stewardship; The
Church.
The second volume covers the following topics:
Inspiration & Inerrancy; Bible Interpretation; The Trinity; Deity of Christ;
Salvation; Sanctification; Satan & Demons; The Christian Life and Future
Events; Systematized Bible Study; Evidences for the Christian Faith; Biblical
Family Roles; The Man, Husband & Father; The Woman, Wife & Mother; the
Child.
Each of these topics is presented in a single chapter
and includes fill-in-the-blank self-quiz forms, a self test, and pointers to
other suggested reading.
These study guides were written by Dr. Russell Penney
and are from a conservative perspective. They are among the best materials of
this nature that I've seen anywhere.
I hope this will give you something to get started with as you minister
to your youth.
