Q98 : NASB 1995 Update

Is the NASB Update 1995 version as accurate as the older version of the NASB? I use the Ryrie and need to buy another and was wondering which edition to purchase: the older version prior to 1995 or the 1995 updated. I notice that Ryrie has a new 2008 version and was wondering if you have looked at that particular edition yet.

A98 : by Tony Garland

The 1995 update of the NASB is a reliable translation in the tradition of the original NASB. Accuracy has been improved slightly with some of the changes and others are primarily to remove old-English (KJV-style) terminology which is less familiar to modern readers. (See http://www.bible-researcher.com/nasb.html for more background.) The 1995 update of the NASB is one of the primary translations that I rely upon for a careful study of God's Word in English.

Concerning the updated Ryrie NASB Study Bible—I would opt for the newest edition. Since Dr. Ryrie is still with us, we can safely assume that the updated version accurately reflects his views and includes additional helps or corrections which meet with his approval.
