Although WordLinks is simple to use and works relatively well, it has several disadvantages. Because it runs within a web browser, it is large and somewhat slow when compared with other programs which install directly on your computer, such as those listed below.
The following bible study tools require installation and operate using the native executable format of your computer. Consequently they are much faster and offer more powerful features which are not possible within WordLinks.
| Software | Description |
| e-Sword | Free Bible study for Windows. |
| Online Bible | Free Bible study for Windows. |
| Sword Project | Free Bible study for Windows or Linux. Also see BibleTime for Linux. |
| Bible Explorer | Free Bible study for Windows (additional purchased texts available). |
| Sword Searcher | An easy-to-use, relatively inexpensive yet powerful commercial Bible study package for Windows. A personal favorite! |
| Power Bible | An easy-to-use, relatively inexpensive yet powerful commercial Bible study package for Windows. |
| Logos | The most advanced commercial Bible study package available. Basic reader is free, but cost of additional books adds up substantially. Very powerful features, but also more difficult to learn. Requires a powerful machine with lots of memory or is frustratingly slow to use. Hundreds of texts available. |
| OliveTree Bible Reader | Carry the equivalent of a shelf of Bibles and reference works, including original language texts, in the palm of your hand. |
