New Covenant
During the Last Supper, Jesus referred to the cup which He shared with His disciples as 'My blood of the new covenant' (Mtt. 26:26-28). How were these words understood by His listeners? Jesus was alluding to an often-overlooked passage from the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah explaining the scope and purpose of the New Covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31; Matthew 26:26-28)
